2 Ballpark Bites: Baseball Season is Here!!!!

With Opening Day just a few days away, I figured what's a better way to kick off the baseball season with some tailgating necessities.  Now for me, as of this coming Monday, March 31st, I will have attended the NY Mets home opener 15 years straight.  It's been a whirlwind of 15 years, but I spend every year with my dad, uncle, and his FDNY fire house.  They sure as hell know how to throw a good tailgate, and each and every year it gets better.  Now, you already know hot dogs and burgers are key components to a good tailgate, but really, what makes it a GREAT tailgate for you??

Below is a little list I think are the ingredients to a great tailgate:

- Great company for one.  Without this, you don't have a tailgate, and frankly, who wants to tailgate with boring people??? Not I that is for sure!

- If you're starting up early, as I'm sure most of you are, MAKE BREAKFAST!! It's really simple!! The night before, crack some eggs, cut some peppers, tomatoes, onions, put them all in a tightly sealed 24oz water bottle, shake it up, refrigerate.  The next day, take your pan, put it on the grill, pour the eggs in, and you got yourself a delicious omelet to kick off the day.  If you have multiple grills going, use the other to grill up some bacon and sausage.

- I know you'll have hot dogs and burgers, but add things to it, don't stay on the straight and narrow. Sausage's are always a good addition. Make some chicken or ribs. But, don't be afraid to make something out of the norm, your party will thank you.

- Good Beer (yes, you'll need your usual Bud Light/Miller Light for whatever games you're playing), but while relaxing, you want something that you can enjoy! Find a good IPA or Pale Ale.  Hell, if you need suggestions, go look at any of our Beer Sips posts for some ideas.

- FUN!! Every tailgate needs some fun added to it, not that you're having a good time as it is, but standing around and talking can grow tiresome quickly, so mix in some yard games.  My favorite go to tailgate game...cornhole (bag-o, bean bag toss).  Add's a good mix of competition, but really you don't need much skill (OK! maybe a little if you're going to play against some of the seasoned vets from the @CitiFieldSheas)

This just scratches the surface of tailgating, as everyone does it differently.  However, if you would like to add to the list, please feel free to hit us up in the comments section or on twitter @NomInNY

Also, if you're going to be at the game on Monday, please let me know, I would love to meet up and say Hello!  LETS GO METS!!

    1. Elise, we are just as excited! Figure being big baseball fans, it's only right to dedicate a part of the blog to the sport we love. Also, come with an empty stomach as you're going to be eating quite a bit when you're here :)
