2 Best Burger Hunt NYC - Part 1 (Bill's Bar & Burger)
So, I decided that after many discussions with a TON of different people, that everyone has an opinion on what they think the best burger is in NYC. A lot of people say Five Guys, no shake shack, no 5 napkins...I'm not quite sure if anyone can come to an agreement on the burger situation in NYC.

1 Jacob's Pickles...
I just want to say that over the weekend (Friday) I had THE MOST
amazing restaurant experience! Last week a very very good friend of
mine asked me a rather interesting question. "Have you ever been to
Jacob's Pickles?" *Immature Pun Alert!* Don't know who this Jacob
is and I definitely don't want anything to do with his pickles! What
actually came out my mouth was: "No." She sent me the link and with one
skeptical eyebrow still in the air (from the name of the joint)...I
thought...venue I've never been to with someone I love breaking bread
with?....I'M IN!
So what is this place? A pickle restaurant?
I know that's probably what you would think at first glance of the name, but no. It's a very down home, southern style-ish, restaurant that takes much pride in their biscuits, beer, and for obvious reasons their pickled products. Very cozy, very southern but still New York (if that even makes sense)...exposed brick and wood panels, mason jars, long high tables, etc.
You mentioned that you had THE MOST amazing experience...what was so amazing about this pickle place?
Pickle place? SMH! Aside from the look, the food and service was outstanding! Upon arrival, we decided to have a seat at the bar and indulge in some Cpt. Lawrence Pumpkin Ale while we waited to be seated. The bartenders were cool as hell! Because of the mixed reviews about the original selections we were making, they let us try it before we confirmed order (thus leading to the Pumpkin Ale). Beer sample...check! The wait was no longer then 10-15 minutes (which actually wasn't all that bad considering the amount of people in there). Quick seating...double check! Our server was THE. BEST! Very pleasant, very engaging, and more importantly very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. *Tangent* too many times I've gone to a restaurant and the server doesn't know anything about what I'm asking. Yeah they can tell me what's in it and how it's prepared but when you get down to brass taxes I want to know should I or should I not order it. *Back to the post* If I'm making a decision that chances are I'm going to regret, I don't mind if the waiter steps in and advises me otherwise. This dude did just that. Very attentive, didn't let the crowd discourage him from checking up on us frequently...just an overall good waiter. Great service...triple check! And last but certainly not least...THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!!...which sealed the deal

Surprisingly/Unfortunately, we did not get any appetizers. After seeing the portions of the entrees we didn't want to find ourselves in a situation that would lead to us having to be wheel barreled out the door. So we got the Country Sausage Beer Mussels (for me) and the Honey Chicken & Pickles (for her). I'll start off with my order...
The Country Sausage Beer Mussels was nothing like what I expected! I'm thinking some sliced sausage mixed with some mussels (already taken out the shell) soaking in a pool of beer broth. It was similar to what I thought but not exactly. It came out in this HUGE (took up the whole plate huge) cask iron pot FILLED with mussels, some diced sausage, a biscuit cut in half, soaking in the still bubbling beer broth, and a side of fries (as if I really needed that!). Overwhelmed at first because of the whole look and size of everything, I managed to conquer the beast one mussel at a time. Let me just say that the mussels and sausage was good, but once dipped in that broth it took the meal to a whole new level! Kinda like a tangy, slightly fishy...but not really. I can't even really put it in words to be honest. What I will say is that I wasn't disappointed with my selection. Now on to her order...
The Honey Chicken & Pickles, I feel embodies a lot of what this place stands for and you'll see why I say that as you keep reading. First off, this is a sandwich ladies and gentleman, but don't think it's just a pickle and chicken sandwich. The chicken is buttermilk fried and the pickles are their in home hot sours. Oh and lets not forget that it's all in between 2 of their humungous, flaky biscuits! And are you ready for this?...wait for it....wait for it....a side of some of the cheesiest grits you will probably ever have in your life. *Tangent* Let the record show that neither one of us are fans of grits, but these made us quickly reconsider our dislike! *Back to the story* You have 2 ways to eat this beast of a sandwich...either dislocate your jaw and take as many bites as you can...or take the girly way out and knife n fork it. *we knifed n forked it* Before chowing down there was a slight audible play called, and a side of gravy was thus entered into the mix. That gravy! LORD JESUS that gravy! It basically turned an already outstanding dish into something heavenly! It's like a white sausage filled gravy. I mean...I'm sure there was much more to it but again I'm at a loss for words. It LITERALLY had to be taken away from the table so I wouldn't dip my finger in there trying to get every last bit of the remains.
OH. MY. GOODNESS! I don't even know what to say to all that...
Sorry to cut you off, but that's not it. After we struggled through all that food we were basically strong armed into getting dessert...Fried Oreos to be more specific. It came with a side of this frosting/whipped cream stuff...OH MAN! The General Manager wasn't lying when he described those things as crack! Thought I was going to end up scratching and shaking looking for my next hit of these fried oreos! And I think that's pretty much all I have to say about that.
DAMN! Are you sure there isn't anything else?
No. That was everything that we ordered. There was absolutely no way anything else was going to fit inside our bodies.
This may be a bit of a stretch question but was there anything that you didn't like about this place?
To be honest, I can't find one thing that I didn't like about this place. Ambiance was great. Service was excellent (even the General Manager stopped by to chat it up with us for a little bit). Food was amazing! The people we shared the table with were friendly. And to top it all off, the Captain from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit came in and had dinner (not with us but he was there).
I think I already know what you're going to say but any recommendations?
This is hands down a MUST GO place! You would be seriously missing out on a great experience if you chose not to come here! Oh and before I forget...their prices are COMPLETELY reasonable! Even more of an incentive! No BS put this place on the top of your "TO GO" list...I promise you won't be disappointed!

0 Long Ireland Pumpkin Ale
Served in a 12oz bottle, at 5.0% ABV, and was poured into a pint glass. Had a small head, with a slight amber/orange tint to it. You can def smell the nutmeg that's in this beer. Not overpowering, but enough to know you're drinking a pumpkin ale.
It's a REALLY good ale though. The ingredients mix well together, and you just know this what you should be drinking on a crisp fall night. The Cinnamon and pumpkin make you feel like you're enjoying a nice piece of pumpkin pie.
If you can find this beer at your local distributor, I would suggest picking up a 6-pack of it.

0 Corner Social...
Being from Harlem, I get extremely skeptical when new places that sell food just randomly pop up. I don't know why, but for some reason I went against my better judgement and decided to try out Corner Social.
So what's the problem with new restaurants in Harlem?
Technically...nothing. The issue I have with them is that there is usually sooooooo much hype that surrounds them. Then when you get around to trying it out you find that it's overpriced, overrated, and just a waste of time. But, like I mentioned before I went against my better judgement and decided to give it a try.
OK. Was it as bad as you envisioned it?
Not really. Nice ambiance, no crowd, decent music, service was pleasant. I must say that I had a really nice lunch outing.
2 questions in and you haven't mentioned anything about the food...guess it wasn't that good huh?
Uhh...so I figured I would take the healthier approach and get the fish tacos (I mean who doesn't love a nice fish taco right?) with an Angry Orchard beer. Sad to say that the beer turned out to be the highlight of my lunch. The tacos were small, bland, and falling apart as soon as I picked them up. Thought the little salsa that they give you would have done it some justice...WRONG! Definitely, wasn't a wise decision on my behalf.
Damn. That sucks. Why didn't try something else while you were there or send the food back?
As much as they try to get you to believe that nothing is done to the food of the customer that send his/her plate back...I'm not buying it! And I didn't buy something else because I'm not in the habit of buying multiple meals during one sitting (especially since I'm there solo). On top of that, why would I invest more money in a place that has already let me down? But yet somehow, the following day I managed to find myself there for dinner -_-
So disappointed with your encounter and yet you go back? Why?
Aside from the food, the place is actually very nice when it comes to social atmosphere. So my hunger and lack of wanting to be in the house is what drove me back over there. Needless to say, I DID NOT get the fish tacos!
How was the second time around?
MUCH BETTER! Was with a buddy of mine and we decided to start out with the chicken nachos which were...SLAMMING! Not necessarily the healthiest choice, but they were sooooo good! As an entree I got the turkey burger and salad. Not for nothing, this may have been one of, if not the best, turkey burger I've ever had. Huge patty, great flavor, the fix'ns weren't overbearing...everything was put together very nicely. Hell, even the salad was good! Experience overall was a complete upgrade from the day before.
Glad to hear your second experience was better then your first...anything else I should know about this place?
Keep in mind that this place is a lounge/bar. Don't go into it expecting to get the best meal you ever had. Also, understand that this place is still fairly new so I'm sure they're in the process of playing with items on the menu to see what works and what doesn't.
Recommendations?
Yeah....STAY AWAY FROM THE FISH TACOS! This place is nothing worth traveling far and wide for, but if you're in the area I'd say give it a try

0 The Cannibal at Madison Square Eats
Madison Square Eats is one of my favorite food events of the year. If you're unfamiliar as to what it is, here's a little rundown. Two or three times a year, restaurants, food trucks, and bakeries set up stands in Worth Square (which is located directly across the street from Madison Square Park). Eats is a very busy attraction, so whatever vendor you choose, be prepared to wait a little
I checked out the list of vendors before I headed over so I went in with a plan of where I was going. After careful consideration, I went with The Cannibal.
I had never heard of The Cannibal before, but seeing the words "butcher & beer" I was sold. The menu looked amazing, and I had a tough time choosing what I wanted, and ultimately chose the bacon and pork belly grilled cheese. To wash all that goodness down, I went with a delicious Bronx Pale Ale.
I waited about 10 minutes for my sandwich as the small stand was working with a panini grill to make all of the sandwiches, but it was a beautiful day so I didn't mind at all. My sandwich arrived and as I unwrapped it the smell of bacon hit my nose and it was, heavenly.
One look at the sandwich, I knew it was going to be delicious. The Gruyere was oozing out of the sourdough bread like... That first bite was everything I was expecting, between the cheese, bacon, and pork belly, it was pure perfection. The bacon was crispy, pork was tender, cheese was fresh, and the bread had a nice flavor to it. Priced at $10, it is without a doubt, one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've had.
Now if you're not hungry, they have plenty of drink choices, from water, soda, beer, and wine. However, if you're going for BBQ, I feel either beer or whiskey should accompany your meal. They had a nice tap and canned selection on hand. The Bronx Pale Ale went well with my sandwich
The service was great and the guy Sil who helped me out was very friendly and helpful with any questions I had.
The Cannibal also has a restaurant on 29th and Park that I will absolutely be visiting soon to get the full experience. And I would suggest you do the same if you enjoy great food and drinks.
